**Taso**, officially the **Tanga-Sonsoro Federal Republic**, is a country to the west of the [[Verusa|Verusan Continent]]. It is bordered to the northwest by [[Sotoa|Sotoa]] and to the north by [[Longana|Longana]]. Taso has three capitals for different governmental operations: [[~Ibudo|Ibudo]] is the executive capital, [[~Haila|Haila]] is home to the Tanga-Sonsoro Congress, and [[~Riki|Riki]] is where Taso's federal courts are based.

Prehistoric cultures populated this part of the Verusan continent around 2-3,000 years ago according to archaeological records. The first defined cultures in this area were fishing and farming communities along the coast, with some confirmed to have migrated from southern Verusa. The largest ancient settlement was confirmed at Gël, the largest city within Taso's modern-day borders for hundreds of years. Some cities such as Seranan and Riki are still discovering archaeological evidence of settlement in their respective areas dating more than 2,000 years ago.

By 1400, Taso's fertile inland and productive coasts sprouted several distinct states in various stages of development. To the north were the [[~Uwerites|Uwerite Kingdom]], [[~InlandStates|Inland States]], and the [[~PurYubari|Pur-Yubari Kingdom]]. To the south were the [[~TuntunKingdom|Tuntun Kingdom]] centered around modern-day Ibudo and the [[~TafarayStates|Tafaray States]] encompassing the southernmost peninsula. The largely maritime societies Tafaray and Pur-Yubari possessed the greatest wealth and trade connections of these early states.

[[FCU|Useans]] and [[Emmeria|Emmerians]] colonized much of modern-day Taso by 1800, leaving the southern [[~Matsitso|Matsitso Republic]] nominally independent.

A string of independence movements, civil wars, and conquests brought independence to the region - and eventually formed the modern-day state. A wave of independence wars against Usea and Emmeria in the late 1800s resulted in three distinct independent states: [[~Etabu|Etabu]], [[~Ndizwa|Ndizwa]], and the [[~SCR|South Coast Republic]]. The three new states signed a mutual defensive pact in 1884, and later united as a single confederation in 1934 and a as Federal Republic in 1971. Citing security concerns over its ongoing [[~MatsitsoCivilWar|civil war]], Taso [[~AnnexationOfMatsitso|invaded and annexed]] the Matsitso Republic in 1981.
