**Sotoa**, officially the **Islamic Republic of Sotoa**, is a country on the western end of the [[Verusa|Verusan Continent]]. It consists of the mainland on the continent and the [[~KotIslands|Kot Islands]] to the west. It is bordered to the east by [[SaunnuKhalij|Saunnu & Khalij]] and [[Al-Arbae|Al-Arbae]], to the southeast by [[Longana|Longana]], and to the south by [[Taso|Taso]]. Its capital and largest city is [[~Aghrar|Aghrar]].

Evidence of human activity in Western Verusa dates back to 2000BC, though oral history suggests earlier settlement. The first societies inhabiting modern-day Sotoa were the Tasem-Huyt to the north, Kap-Rec Kingdom to the west, and Bakin-Teku to the east. By 1400, major kingdoms arose across the continent - those within Sotoa's current borders were the Kap Kingdom, Aksamite Empire, Gaob Confederation, and Muzdahir Sultanate. In the [[Maabal|Maabal]] Desert taking up much of Sotoa's current landmass, nomadic peoples maintained largely isolated societies - engaging with trade with the rest of the continent.

Erusea first landed on the Kot Islands in the 1500s, soon taking advantage of the divided continent to conquer and colonize much of Sotoa. [[FCU|Useans]] soon followed, and foreign forces established colonies across modern-day Sotoa by the late 1700s.

Sotoa's founding resulted from the unification of a [[~CLS|coalition]] of independence movements fighting against [[Erusea|Erusean]] colonial forces in the 1820's-30s.
